What is the opposite of a friend? Is it a stranger, is it an enemy, or is it something else? Enemy Pie is a touching story with the message that bullying is not okay, and that it is possible to become friends with anyone if you are willing to try. It is a priceless lesson about the power of kindness and what it takes to reverse snap judgements.

This book would be a great tool for parents to teach young children how to become a good friend to others and an opportunity to have a conversation about bullying. The conflict between the two is the young boy’s perception. You don’t get the sense that Jeremy purposefully did something to get himself named an enemy. Kids are easily hurt by things that aren’t done on purpose (like not being invited to a party), and this story helps them understand that life isn’t always about them.
